Dewy Slide or Don’t We

I’ve had a blast observing the boys today, in spite of it feeling a little hectic. We had enough time to do the morning routine at a steady, but fairly leisurely pace, before going to an appointment. I was on track for an on-time departure by the time I had the boys dressed…in their shorts…

Mind the Gap: An Illustrated Tour of Elijah’s Split Lip

[Yes, this has graphic lip wound pictures, but I’ll be nice and put them at the end.] Not to be outshone by the birthday boy, Elijah took a tumble from the kitchen table, right at birthday cake time. I was on the other side of the table and didn’t see most of the fall. He…

It’s best to starve your PET

We rocked. We walked. We bounced. A boy knows what he wants. He tantrumed with all his might. I briefly calmed him with some warm water in a bottle. He doesn’t drink out of bottles, but he was happy to chew for a moment. I tried some TV. I walked some more, praying and praying he’d fall asleep. Finally, he did sleep, but it was only long enough for me to get dressed, sneak some food and wake him up to go.

Three, Two, One, Vinblastine

Yesterday (Friday), Elijah *finally* had his last planned dose of chemo. In three weeks, he will have a full-body PET scan, and if it is at least as good-looking as his previous scan, then he will go to an observation schedule of check-ups every month, then every three months, then 6 months, then annually. He…

Ooooh. Ahhhhh. Yeah, You Might Want to Just Ignore This One.

I think I might dance and giggle. OF COURSE there was a Facebook app that lists a history of my status updates, and now I have brought them here, only slightly edited. To overwhelm your mind. To keep them as mine. ALL MINE. Woah-ha-ha-haaa! Amy If you’re happy and you owe it, hug a Vet!…

Maybe if We Dropped a Megaton of Cheese

I’ve not been all that smooth myself. The first time we enjoyed a Greek Dinner at Mykonos, Brian’s dad introduced me to their Sagnaki, or more specifically an appetizer of flaming, pan-seared cheese and tomato, doused with a squirt of lemon juice, to a cheer of  “oooooooooOO-PA!” While awaiting our snack, I started pondering aloud…

I’ll Be in the Powder Room

He’s crawling! I would probably call it official since Friday. I’m in for it now. They can officially take off in three different directions. Prior to Friday, Elijah was “migrating.” By lunging and turning and sitting, he would get around a little bit. His last chemo visit went well. His blood counts were basically normal…

Even The Calgon Ran For Cover

Yes, last week was just that scary. If stars could’ve had a role, they would have completely un-aligned. Murphy’s Law nearly bore my namesake. I completely blame the Chiclets – the ones Elijah is pushing through his gums. I’m still waiting to see if the bottom tooth is a new tooth or a piece of…

Cluster Feeding and Flustered Pleading

I think I’m regressing. I dreamed last night about building a really awesome GeoTrax layout. I guess creativity can strike anywhere. What the hay, I went ahead and gave it a shot and it actually was pretty cool.  I barely got it finished before I had to get back to my cluster-feeder. Elijah surprised me…

Wait Lifting

As I wait again in the family waiting area for a NICU surgery to wrap up, I’m reminded of the difficult lessons I’m learning. The first is patience. I’m learning that God has a timeline and I’m better off letting go of mine and embracing His. I have a matryoshka doll of “waits” bobbling in…
